It shows some of the classic funerary architecture characteristic of the area and is similar to some of the cemeteries in Europe. Along the left side of the image can be seen the temporary burial vaults that were used to house the dead until they could be legally interred in permanent tombs such as those on the right. The older cemeteries of New Orleans bear a striking resemblance to the old city (now the French Quarter) itself. |
