This was created as part of the Wrinkle 3 project. QTVR developers all over the world shot panoramas at exactly the same moment in time: the Winter Solstice. Here is my story:

I sat at the traffic light reviewing the events of the day while I waited, quite impatiently, for green to replace red. Always more work to do in one day than will fit. Always one more friend in need of a few moments to chat and a little cheering. Can't begrudge them a second of it.

The original plan to capture a pano from the top of a particular local peak had been scrapped a mere 30 minutes before. It would take a good 40 minutes to get to the top at my best speed, plus a bit to set up the equipment. That was now a panorama for a different time.

Rushing out of the last client's office at a breakneck tilt, I hit upon an alternative with the same concept. I could drive to the top of one of the smaller mountains. There's a resort there with a restaurant near the peak (the "Different Pointe of View" - visible in the panorama.) Last time I was there, "no trespassing" signs adorned the trailhead but, even a shot from the parking lot would be better than nothing.

5:24 P.M. Sunset. Nineteen minutes to solstice. Green light.

5:32 P.M. Parked the truck. The "no trespassing" sign is nowhere in sight. What the heck. I jogged up the short trail to the actual peak. A few inconvenient rocks at the summit are no match for my Benbo Trekker tripod. Attach the Kaidan Kiwi+ head and the Canon PowerShot A5. Level.

5:43 P.M. Solstice. Commence shooting!

As I finish, I realize that the trembling in my hands is not just excitement or adrenaline. The sun went down 20 minutes ago. It's getting cold up here. Sheesh! It must be down to 60 degrees Fahrenheit now! :)

I pack up and head out, stopping to take a quick picture of the lack of a "no trespassing" sign, just in case ...
